Henning grew up in Hamburg, where he also completed his BA. Afterwards he studied at the London School of Economics for an MSc in Political Economy of Late Development, where he was awarded the dissertation prize. Before joining the CDSE, he graduated with an MSc in Economics from the University of Tübingen. Henning interned at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) and worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Applied Economic Research (IAW).
His research interests are at the intersection of development, public economics and political economy.
