Carlos Gueiros is a doctoral candidate in political science at the Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences (GESS). He holds a master's degree in development economics from the University of Göttingen and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Federal University of Pernambuco (Brazil). During his master's studies, he worked as a student assistant at the research training group “Transformation of Global Agri-Food Systems” at the University of Göttingen. In his master’s thesis, he explored the effect of local legislature size on Twitter political sentiment in Brazil.
His research interests include political economy, institutions, and development. His dissertation focuses on political and non-political phenomena that drive institutional change, political accountability, and shifts in the political process. Methodologically, he is interested in the empirical implications of theoretical models, causal inference, geospatial analysis, and quantitative text analysis.
