Islam was born in 1999 in Rize, Turkey. He holds bachelors’ degrees in economics and political science with high honours; and master’s degree in economics from the Bogazici University, Istanbul. Through his studies he worked as a working student and as a graduate assistant. He is interested in the intersection of economics and political science with a strong interest in applied political economy, and works on questions 
concerning development and institutions. In his free time he is an enthusiastic Fenerbahçe fan.
