Julian read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Magdalen College, Oxford, before commencing an MSc in Economics at LMU Munich. He was a visiting student at ENSAE Paris and has gained research experience at the Blavatnik School of Government (Oxford) and the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance (Munich). 

His research interests lie in behavioural economics and game theory, particularly in how individuals form beliefs and make decisions when information is imperfect and outcomes are uncertain, and in how learning, heuristics, and bounded rationality shape choice under risk and strategic interaction. He is also interested in how these questions extend to expectation formation and information frictions in macroeconomic and financial settings.
