Joshua Elias Schmidt Rodrigues

Joshua E. S. Rodrigues is a doctoral candidate at the Graduate School for Economic and Social Sciences (GESS) at the University of Mannheim and a research associate at the Chair of Quantitative Methods in the School of Social Sciences. He obtained his M.A. in Political Science from the University of Mannheim. During his graduate studies he studied at Aarhus University, Denmark for one semester and visited the Oxford Spring School in Advanced Research Methods. Besides his studies he worked for the German Longitudinal Elections Study (GLES) on the German Candidate Study. 

His research interests lie in comparative politics, with a particular focus on how politicians strategically adapt their rhetoric to different audiences. Reflecting this interest, his master’s thesis examined the use of vague language by members of the German Bundestag. Methodologically, he is particularly interested in computational social science, and more specifically quantitative text analysis.
