Participation at EMNLP 2019

Juniorprofessor Goran Glavaš and DWS master students Fabian Schmidt and Markus Dietsche participated last week at the top-tier conference in the area of natural language processing, EMNLP-IJCNLP in Hong Kong (Nov 3–7).
Together with the colleagues from the University of Cambridge, Ivan Vulić and Edoardo Ponti, Goran gave a tutorial on “Semantic Specialization of Distributional Representations Models” (slides available here). He also co-organized the Workshop on Graph-Based Methods for NLP (TextGraphs, proceedings here), which was collocated with the main EMNLP conference.
In the program of the main EMNLP conference, we presented the following two research papers:
- Edoardo Maria Ponti, Ivan Vulić, Goran Glavaš, Roi Reichart and Anna Korhonen. Cross-lingual Semantic Specialization via Lexical Relation Induction (pages 2206-2217).
- Ivan Vulić, Goran Glavaš, Roi Reichart and Anna Korhonen. Do We Really Need Fully Unsupervised Cross-Lingual Embeddings? (pages 4398-4409)
Finally, master students Markus Dietsche and Fabian David Schmidt presented our System Demonstration paper and SEAGLE platform:
- Fabian David Schmidt, Markus Dietsche, Simone Paolo Ponzetto, and Goran Glavaš. SEAGLE: A Platform for Comparative Evaluation of Semantic Encoders for Information Retrieval. (platform accessible here)
