Welcome to the webpages of the Data and Web Science Group. We conduct research and offer teaching in the areas data analytics, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and data integration. The group consists of 7 professors and around 35 researchers and supporting staff members.
The Data and Web Science Group conducts research on methods for managing, integrating and mining large amounts of heterogeneous information within enterprise and open Web contexts. We are involved in several national and international projects and cooperate with partners from industry, research institutes and other universities. Details on the results of our research are found in the conference and journal papers available on the publications page. The open-license datasets, open-source software packages, and benchmarks that are offered by our group are found on the resources page.
The Data and Web Science Group consists of the following focus groups:
Updates from individual group members are found in the DWS twitter feed.
We offer regular courses for bachelor and master students related to the topics data mining, data integration, information retrieval, natural language processing, knowledge engineering, and knowledge managment. It is also possible to write a bachelor or master thesis related to the research topics of our group. Excellent alumni can also graduate at our group to achieve a PhD. Further, we are searching for motivated students to work as research assistant within our group.
Beside fundamental research activities, we also focus on applied research and technology transfer. In this area we closely cooperate with partners from industry. Amongst other activities, we are involved in the Mannheim Center for Data Science (MCDS) and the Institute for Enterprise Systems (InES).
