CS 717: Seminar on Award Winning Research in CV & ML (HWS 2026)

This seminar will cover papers that won the Best Paper Award (or runner-up), Best Student Paper awards, and Test of Time Awards (or equivalent awards) at the top-tier conferences like NeurIPS, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICML, and ICLR. 
It will also explore these papers, learn about frontier research in Computer Vision and Machine Learning, and help in understadning how to write papers and do award-winning research.

• This seminar is organized by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Margret Keuper and Shashank Agnihotri.
• Prerequisites: Background in Machine Learning.
• The maximum number of participants is 6 Master's students and 6 Bachelor's students.

In this seminar, you will

• Read, understand, and explore scientific literature
• Summarize a current research topic in a concise report (10 single-column pages + references)
• Give two presentations about your topic (3 minutes flash presentation, 15 minutes final presentation)
• Moderate a scientific discussion about the topic of one of your fellow students
• Review a (draft of a) report of a fellow student

Please register via Portal2 and email your list of preferred papers (to be shared by 8^th September 2026) by 14^th September (at least four choices) to Shashank Agnihotri at shashank.agnihotri@uni-mannheim.de. If you do not provide your preferences by the deadline, we will assign a topic randomly.

The actual topic assignment will take place shortly afterward, and we will notify you via email.

Our goal is to assign one of your preferred areas of work. Please note that preferences will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The kick-off meeting will take place on 15^th September 2026 at 17:15.
