Migration of Digital Projects to bwCloud-OS (Gen3)

The transition from Gen2 to Gen3 is underway.

With its OpenStack-based “Infrastructure-as-a-Service” (IaaS) platform, the state-run service bwCloud-OS provides a powerful foundation for digital projects, including those at the University of Mannheim. Virtual machines equipped with CPU, RAM, storage, and network resources are ready for use in minutes—dynamically scalable and efficient to operate.

Following the soft launch just under three weeks ago, the transition to the new, fee-based infrastructure platform bwCloud-OS (Gen3) is now in full swing.

University of Mannheim staff who have already used bwCloud-OS Gen2 should take action now:

  • Time to Plan: Information on current pricing is available and can be used to make informed decisions regarding resource planning.
  • Seamless Migration: The move to Gen3 is key to the long-term stability of the resources and applications currently running on Gen2.
  • Transparency: The IDM configurations of the core locations have been consolidated and listed as “best practices.” Information about the next steps, particularly regarding the planned decommissioning of bwCloud-OS (Gen2), is available on the bwCloud -website. This ensures that service interruptions can be reliably avoided.

The project team is assisting users with the necessary preparations for the transition to the new platform. Questions regarding migration, technical integration, or account activation will be answered promptly to ensure a smooth transition.

Next steps for University of Mannheim employees who wish to use bwCloud-OS (Gen3):
