If you have applied to the University of Mannheim and received an official letter of admission, the next step is to enroll at the University of Mannheim.
Enrollment is done online in Portal² by entering the required data and uploading all necessary documents within the deadline specified in the letter of admission (enrollment deadline).
Please make sure that you have all documents to be submitted available as separate PDF files with a maximum file size of 3 MB each. If you have documents containing several pages, please merge these pages in a single file. Please note that your documents can only be considered for enrollment if they were uploaded in the correct field. It is not possible to submit your documents via e-mail.
It is mandatory to submit the following documents (exceptions apply if you are already enrolled at the University of Mannheim):
After you have entered your data in the online enrollment, you need to print and sign the request for enrollment. You can either print, sign, and scan the request for enrollment, or you can sign the generated PDF file digitally.
Please upload the signed request in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “Request for enrollment“.
Please transfer the semester fee to the account of the University of Mannheim and make sure to indicate „student ID number, last name, first name“ as payment reference. Your student ID number will be displayed once you have completed online enrollment. You may also need to pay tuition fees for international students or for a second degree, which are then added to the semester fee.
If you are already enrolled in another program of study at the University of Mannheim and change the field of study or the degree, you need not transfer the semester fee and, if applicable, tuition fees again, provided that you have already re-registered for your former program.
If you have to pay tuition fees for international students, please make sure to observe the information in the “Semester and tuition fees” section in Portal².

We need either a membership confirmation of your health insurance provider or a certificate from any statutory health insurance provider confirming that you have been exempted from compulsory insurance. This information is electronically forwarded to us by the statutory health insurance provider. Uploading a PDF file is not possible.
You are under a statutory health insurance scheme? Please request that your statutory health insurance provider reports your insurance status via the reporting reason M10 for the University of Mannheim (“Meldegrund 10 für die Universität Mannheim”), referencing the sender number H0002079. This confirmation is used by the health insurance provider to inform the university whether you have compulsory insurance as a member or whether you are covered by family insurance through a statutorily insured parent, spouse, or life partner.
You are insured in a private health insurance scheme? You need to submit a request for exemption from compulsory statutory health insurance to a statutory health insurance provider. Please request that the statutory health insurance provider reports your exemption from compulsory insurance via the reporting reason M10 for the University of Mannheim (“Meldegrund 10 für die Universität Mannheim”), referencing the sender number H0002079. If you have been previously insured under a statutory health insurance scheme, please contact your previous health insurance provider. Otherwise, you may contact a statutory health insurance provider of your choice.
Please request the reporting reason M10 immediately after you have been admitted to the University of Mannheim in order to ensure that we receive the certificate as soon as possible. Please note that you cannot enroll without this proof. However, you may already request to be enrolled. To check whether we have already received your reporting reason M10, please visit Portal² (seeinstructions).

International first-year students, who are covered by statutory health insurance in their home country, may request an exemption from compulsory health insurance in Germany provided that they have adequate insurance coverage. Please contact any statutory health insurance provider in Germany and request reporting reason M10 for the University of Mannheim (“Meldegrund 10 für die Universität Mannheim”), referencing the sender number H0002079. Details can be found on Portal².
If you enroll in a bachelor’s program, you need to submit proof of an orientation test (aptitude test / Career Counselling for Teachers). On our website on aptitude tests, you will find more information on the test you need to take.
Please upload the confirmation of participation (not the test result) in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “Aptitude test“, “Career Counselling for Teachers“ or ”OSA-Psych“.
Some bachelor's and master's programs require a certain level of English language proficiency. You only need to submit a proof of language proficiency if a corresponding requirement is noted on your official letter of admission.
Please upload a copy of your certificate in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “Proof of language proficiency” as soon as possible after receiving the official letter of admission but by the deadline specified on the letter, at the latest. You can also ask your test center to send your test results to us electronically.
If you have already been enrolled at a German university, we need a confirmation of eligibility to take exams from the previous higher education institution confirming that you are still eligible to take exams in the respective degree program.
You only need to submit a confirmation of eligibility to take exams if a corresponding requirement is noted on your official letter of admission.
Please upload this confirmation in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “Confirmation of eligibility to take exams”.
If you were enrolled at a higher education institution in Germany in the previous semester, we need a confirmation of disenrollment from the higher education institution you attended last.
In addition, we need proof of the semesters you have been enrolled at a higher education institution, proof of the number of subject-specific semesters you have completed and, if applicable, proof of any academic leaves of absence lasting a semester. Proofs may be submitted in the form of an enrollment record (Studienverlaufsbescheinigung) or an enrollment certificate, for example.
Please note: If you have been enrolled at several higher education institutions in Germany, you need to submit corresponding proofs of all higher education institutions you have attended to date.

If you are already enrolled in another degree program at the University of Mannheim, you do not need to upload this/
If you are planning to enroll in two or more degree programs at the University of Mannheim or are already enrolled at another university and would like to enroll at the University of Mannheim at the same time, you will find important information here. Please remember to submit your application soon enough so that your enrollment won’t be delayed.
Please upload the approval for parallel studies in the section the enrollment documents in the field ”Parallel studies“.
Please note in case of enrollenment in a master’s program:
It is not considered parallel studies, if, at the moment, you are still completing your bachelor's degree and are therefore enrolled at another university until the end of the semester.
If you are in an employment relationship of any kind (including vocational training), enrolling at the University of Mannheim is not possible. Exceptions from this rule may only apply, if you are able to pursue your degree without any restrictions, in particular, provided that you are able to attend the required courses.
If you have an employment contract for less than 20 hours per week, we assume that this requirement is met. In this case, you do not need to submit a document of proof.
If you have an employment contract for more than 20 hours per week, we need a confirmation from your employer. The confirmation must prove that you are able to pursue your degree without any restrictions, in particular, that you are able to attend the required courses. Please use our template for this confirmation.
Please upload the completed and signed confirmation in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field ”Proof of employment relationship“.
After you have uploaded all documents, please request to be enrolled by clicking the “Submit documents and request enrollment” button. Your documents will then be transferred to the Student Services and you will be shown the status “received”.
If you are already enrolled in another program of study at the University of Mannheim and change the field of study or the degree, we will enroll you in the new program provided that you have been admitted to this program and have requested to be enrolled, Provided that you have already re-registered for your former program, you need not transfer the semester fee again.
If you receive an official letter of admission from the University of Mannheim but are still waiting for the official letter of admission from another higher education institution, you can still enroll at the University of Mannheim. If you receive the official letter of admission from the other higher education institution and want to enroll there, you can still disenroll from the University of Mannheim. To do so, you simply need to request disenrollment on Portal². Upon request, we will reimburse you for the semester fee and the tuition fees. Please be aware of the applying deadlines.
