If you have applied to the University of Mannheim and received an official letter of admission, the next step is to enroll at the University of Mannheim.
Please note that you can only enroll online. Please go to the online application portal and upload all required documents in the section for the enrollment documents. Please make sure that you upload the documents in due time before the deadline indicated in the official letter of admission ends (enrollment deadline). Please note that submissions by e-mail are not possible and will not be considered.
Please make sure that you have all documents to be submitted ready as a separate PDF with a maximum file size of 3 MB / file. If you have multi-page documents, please merge these pages in a single file. This is, for example, relevant for the “request for enrollment”. You can only upload one PDF per upload field.
The following documents must be submitted (exceptions apply if you are already enrolled at the University of Mannheim):
You will find the request for enrollment and the official letter of admission in the online application portal. Please
– print the request for enrollment,
– check and correct the data, if required,
– complete the grey fields in a legible manner and
– sign the request on the last page.

Please upload the request for enrollment as one PDF in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “request for enrollment”.
Please transfer the semester fee in the amount of EUR 194.30 to the account of the University of Mannheim. You may also need to pay tuition fees for international students or for a second degree, which are then added to the semester fee. Please make sure to indicate the payment reference when making the transfer. You will find the payment reference on the information sheet. The information sheet is attached to the official letter of admission.
Please upload the proof of payment in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “proof of payment (semester fee and tuition fee, if applicable)”.
If you have to pay tuition fees for international students, please make sure to observe the information on paying the semester fee and the tuition fee on your official letter of admission which can be found in the student portal in the section “semester and tuition fees”.

“Proof of health insurance coverage with a statutory health insurance provider” or “exemption from compulsory insurance” is needed. Your insurance status will then be transmitted to us electronically by the statutory health insurance provider. It is not possible to upload a PDF file.
Do you have statutory health insurance coverage? Then please request the “Meldegrund 10 für die Universität Mannheim” (Absendernummer: H0002079) from your statutory health insurance provider. With this confirmation, the health insurance provider reports to the university whether you are insured with the health insurance provider yourself or whether you are coverd by family insurance, i.e. you are insured within the scope of the statutory health insurance scheme of your parents.
Have you taken out private health insurance? Then you have to request to be exempted from compulsory insurance by a statutory health insurance provider and also request the “Meldegrund 10 für die Universität Mannheim” (Absendernummer: H0002079). If you were previously insured with a statutory health insurance provider, please contact this health insurance provider, otherwise contact any statutory health insurance provider of your choice.
Please request the “Meldegrund 10 für die Universität Mannheim” as soon as possible after admission, so that we receive your proof of health insurance coverage as early as possible. Without this proof, enrollment is not possible.
In Portal2, you can check if we have already received your proof of health insurance coverage. Plese refer to these instructions.
Please note:
International first-year students who have taken out health insurance in their home country can also be exempted from compulsory insurance if they have sufficient insurance coverage. For this purpose, please contact any statutory health insurance provider in Germany and request the “Meldegrund 10 für die Universität Mannheim”. Detailed information can be found in Portal².
If you enroll in a bachelor’s program, you need to submit proof of an orientation test (aptitude test / Career Counselling for Teachers). On our website on aptitude tests, you will find more information on the test you need to take.

If you uploaded the proof when submitting your online application, it is not required to upload it again.
You need a copy of your ID card or passport which shows your name and your date of birth.

If you are already enrolled in a degree program at the University of Mannheim or change your degree program, you do not need to upload these documents.
For some bachelor's and master's programs you need a minimum proof of proficiency in English. Please refer to the application brochures or the Selection Statutes for more information about the level of language proficiency required, if tests from previous years are accepted and by which date the proof has to be submitted.
You only need to submit a proof of language proficiency, if your official letter of admission contains the words ”Important information – Proof of language proficiency”.
Please upload a copy of your certificate in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “proof of English language proficiency, if applicable” as soon as you have received your official letter of admission but by the deadline specified in the letter of admission, at the latest. You can also ask your test center to send your test results to us electronically.
If you have already been enrolled at a German university, we need a confirmation of eligibility to take exams from the previous higher education institution which conforms that you are still eligible to take exams in the degree program.
You only need to submit this proof, if your official letter of admission contains the words “Important information – Confirmation of eligibility to take exams”.
Please upload this confirmation in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “Confirmation of eligibility to take exams, if applicable”.
If you have been enrolled at a higher education institution in Germany in the previous semester, we need a confirmation of disenrollment from the higher education institution you attended last.
In addition, we need proof of the semesters you have been enrolled at a higher education institution, proof of the number of subject-specific semesters you have completed and, if applicable, proof of any academic leaves of absence lasting a semester. Proofs may be submitted in the form of an enrollment record (Studienverlaufsbescheinigung) or an enrollment certificate (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung), for example. Please note: If you have been enrolled at several higher education institutions in Germany, you need to submit proofs of all higher education institutions.
Please upload these documents of proof in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the fields "confirmation of disenrollment, if applicable“ and “enrollment certificate, if applicable“.
If you are already enrolled in a degree program at the University of Mannheim, you do not need to upload this document of proof/
If you have been admitted to a master's program at the University of Mannheim and disenrolling from your current higher education institution is not possible yet, we need a certificate from your current higher education institution, before you can enroll at the University of Mannheim. Please ask your previous higher education institution to confirm the degree you have obtained and any outstanding examinations. Please use our template for this confirmation (available only on German).
Please upload the completed and signed confirmation in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field ”Proof of enrollment, if applicable“.
If you are in an employment relationship of any kind (including vocational training), enrolling at the University of Mannheim is not possible. Exceptions from this rule may only apply, if you are able to pursue your studies without restrictions, in particular, if you are able to attend the required courses.
If you have an employment contract for less than 20 hours per week, we assume that this requirement is met. In this case, you do not need to submit a document of proof.
If you have an employment contract for more than 20 hours per week, we need a confirmation from your employer. The confirmation must prove that you are able to pursue your studies without restrictions, in particular that you are able to attend the required courses. Please use our template for this confirmation (available only in German).
Please upload the completed and signed confirmation in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “Confirmation of employer, if applicable”.
After you have uploaded all documents to the online application portal, please request the enrollment by clicking the “request enrollment” button. Your documents will then be transferred to the Student Services and you will receive a confirmation of receipt by e-mail.
Please only request the enrollment after you have uploaded all documents required for enrollment.
The documents which have to be submitted are specified on the information sheet. The information sheet is attached to the official letter of admission.
If you are, on reasonable grounds, not able to comply with the enrollment deadline, make sure to inform us within the enrollment deadline in writing or via e-mail by indicating your application ID. We will then check if it is possible to reserve the study place for you even after the enrollment deadline has ended. Please note that we are unable to consider any documents received after the enrollment deadline, if you fail to notify us in advance.
If some documents of proof are still missing at the end of the enrollment deadline, please submit, by way of exception, the request for enrollment without these documents of proof but make sure to submit the request within the enrollment deadline. You will then receive a request to submit the missing documents at a later point in time.
If you are already enrolled in a degree program at the University of Mannheim (for example, students in a bachelor's program changing their program or continue to study at the University of Mannheim in a master's program), will be enrolled in the new program. In this case, you only need to submit the request for enrollment and the proof of payment for the semester fee.
The health insurance documents and documents on semesters you were enrolled at other higher education institutions in Germany do not have to be submitted.
If you receive an official letter of admission from the University of Mannheim but are still waiting for the official letter of admission from another higher education institution, you can still enroll at the University of Mannheim. If you receive the official letter of admission from the other higher education institution and want to enroll at this higher education institution, you can still disenroll from the University of Mannheim. In this case, please send us a disenrollment request. Upon request, we will reimburse you for the semester fees and tution fees. Please make sure you comply with the deadlines.
