Enrollment

If you have applied to the University of Mannheim and received an official letter of admission, the next step is to enroll at the University of Mannheim.

Please note that you can only enroll online. Please go to the online application portal and upload all required documents in the section for the enrollment documents. Please make sure that you upload the documents in due time before the deadline indicated in the official letter of admission ends (enrollment deadline). Please note that submissions by e-mail are not possible and will not be considered.

Please make sure that you have all documents to be submitted ready as a separate PDF with a maximum file size of 3 MB / file. If you have multi-page documents, please merge these pages in a single file. This is, for example, relevant for the “request for enrollment”. You can only upload one PDF per upload field.

The following documents must be submitted (exceptions apply if you have been enrolled at the University of Mannheim in the previous semester or if you enroll in the off-campus status):

  • Request for enrollment

You will find the request for enrollment and the official letter of admission in the online application portal. Please
    – print the request for enrollment,
    – check and correct the data, if required,
    – complete the grey fields in a legible manner and
    – sign the request on the last page.

If you have questions on how to complete the form, please refer to the document on how to fill in the form (only availablein German). International students will find a document on how to fill in the form in Portal².

Please upload the request for enrollment as one PDF in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “request for enrollment”.

  • Proof of payment for the semester fee and tuition fees, if applicable

Please transfer the semester fee in the amount of EUR 194.30 to the account of the University of Mannheim. You may also need to pay tuition fees for international students or for a second degree, which are then added to the semester fee. Please make sure to indicate the payment reference when making the transfer. You will find the payment reference on the information sheet. The information sheet is attached to the official letter of admission.

Please upload the proof of payment in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “proof of payment (semester fee and tuition fee, if applicable)”.

If you have to pay tuition fees for international students, please make sure to observe the information on paying the semester fee and the tuition fee on your official letter of admission which can be found in the student portal in the section “semester and tuition fees”. If you have any questions, please contact the bursar’s office at tuitionfees uni-mannheim.de. Please state your name and your application ID when writing to the bursar's office.

  • Health insurance certificate

If you are insured under a statutory health insurance scheme: Please contact your statutory health insurance provider and request “a confirmation of your insurance in a statutory health insurance scheme for the purpose of enrolling at a higher education institution”. The confirmation must indicate the identification number (Betriebsnummer) of your health insurance provider and your insurance number. It is not sufficient to submit a copy of your insurance card or another document confirming that you are insured under a statutory health insurance scheme.

If you are insured under a private health insurance scheme: Please submit a request for exemption from the mandatory statutory health insurance to a statutory health insurance provider. You will then receive a certificate that you are exempt from the mandatory statutory health insurance (“Befreiungsbescheinigung”). If you have been previously insured under a statutory health insurance scheme, please contact your previous health insurance provider. Otherwise, you may contact a statutory health insurance provider of your choice. We do not need a document of proof confirming that you are insured under a private health insurance scheme.

Please upload these documents of proof in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “proof of health insurance“.

If you are already enrolled in a degree program at the University of Mannheim, you do not need to upload this document of proof.

It is sufficient if international first-year students provide proof of their health insurance after their arrival in Germany. Details can be found on Portal².

  • Aptitude test / Career Counseling for teachers or OSA-Psych (only applicants for bachelor’s programs)

If you enroll in a bachelor’s program, you need to submit proof of an orientation test (aptitude test / Career Counselling for Teachers). On our website on aptitude tests, you will find more information on the test you need to take.

Please upload the proof in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “Aptitude test / Career Counselling for Teachers / OSA Psych“.

If you uploaded the proof when submitting your online application, it is not required to upload it again.

  • Scan of ID / passport

You need a copy of your ID card or passport which shows your name and your date of birth.

Please upload the copy in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “ID card/passport“.

Please upload a copy of your certificate in the online application portal in the section for the enrollment documents in the field “proof of English language proficiency, if applicable” as soon as possible but by the deadline specified on the official letter of admission, at the latest. You can also ask your test center to send your test results to us electronically.
