Grants for Travel Expenses

Are you a postdoc at the University of Mannheim and would like to take part in an international conference or complete a longer research stay abroad? Then take advantage of our grants providing financial support for international business trips. The grants will be paid upon submission of a travel expense report after returning to Mannheim. If necessary, you can apply for an advance payment prior to your journey.

Prerequisites for funding
Applications are open to researchers holding a doctoral degree (postdocs and junior professors) who have a fixed-term employment contract with the University of Mannheim with the aim of gaining further academic qualifications. Funding is granted per person and year.

Participation in conferences
To be eligible for funding, you must actively participate in the event (lecture, poster, chair). Depending on the destination, certain limits apply for grants for travel expenses; around 60 percent of the total costs will be covered:

  • Europe: EUR 750
  • North America: EUR 1,250
  • Central and South America: EUR 1,250
  • Africa: EUR 1,000
  • Asia: EUR 1,000
  • Middle East: EUR 800
  • Australia/New Zealand: EUR 1,250

Research stays
Grants of up to EUR 3,000 can be awarded for a stay at a higher education or research institution abroad.

Application and funding procedure
Please complete the application form and send it together with the required attachments by e-mail to Katharina Bolle. Once your application has been reviewed and approved, we will send you a grant award notification via e-mail. You can then submit your business travel request to Division V (travel expenses office). Please collect all receipts relevant to the business travel expense report during your trip. Submit your business travel expense report to Division V (travel expenses office) after your return. You will then be reimbursed the amount of your grant.

Deadline for submitting the application
At least four weeks before the start of the trip.
