Mannheim to become climate-neutral by 2030

The EU Commission has selected 100 cities for the “climate neutral and smart cities” mission. ENGAGE.EU is also represented with Mannheim, Rome, Sofia, Barcelona and Helsinki.

Climate change is one of the major societal challenges of the 21st century and one of the core topics of the European University ENGAGE.EU. The alliance has established the goal of inspiring active societal engagement and thus helping to shape the current and future state of Europe. For this reason, it is of great importance to us that Mannheim was selected by the European Mission as one of 100 cities for the mission " climate neutral and smart cities”. In addition, Rome and Sofia as well as our two new partners Barcelona and Helsinki are also part of the Cities Mission.

The EU mission has been developed within the framework of Horizon Europe and represents a new collaborative approach to launching adaptations to climate change. The selected cities aim to become climate neutral by 2030 and serve as centres of experimentation and innovation to enable all European cities to become climate neutral by 2050.
