Research Support
We provide advice and support in securing external funding for your research projects. Whether you need help identifying suitable funding opportunities, planning your budget, navigating contractual arrangements, or drafting contracts, we support you throughout the entire application process. Once funding has been approved, the External Funding team (Division V) takes over the administrative management of your project. They can assist you with all matters related to managing the funds, recruiting project staff, and handling the financial administration of your project. To make the most of our support, please involve us as early as possible.
Developing ideas
Are you planning to launch an ambitious research project at the University of Mannheim? The university offers infrastructure and funding opportunities to support collaborative research projects that help advance the university’s profile and its research focus areas. These include funding programs such as UMAXplore or the Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) which bring together researchers from different disciplines.
Finding funding opportunities
We support you in identifying suitable funding opportunities. Please feel free to contact us: Each member of our team specializes in specific funding organizations. In addition, you may subscribe to the FIT Newsletter (Forschung, Internationales und Transfer) which provides a personalized selection of current calls for proposals. You can also use the FIT database and ELFI (Electronic Research Funding Information) to search for funding opportunities. Further information on funding programs is available on the intranet.
Submitting a proposal
Our support covers the entire process up to the successful submission of your proposal. We provide feedback on your proposal, assist with budget planning, and obtain necessary signatures or supporting letters from the President’s Office. For initiatives of strategic importance, we coordinate the internal processes and assist with proposal sections on cross-cutting topics such as early-career support, gender equality and diversity, research security, or sustainability. Further information on proposal preparation and cross-cutting topics in research proposals is available on the intranet.
Addressing legal matters and concluding agreements
We support you with legal and contractual matters related to securing external funding, for example, confidentiality agreements, and collaboration agreements. Please contact the Legal Service team at an early stage. We will prepare an agreement tailored to your project and coordinate it with the other contracting parties.
Collaborating internationally
Internationalization is a key priority for the University of Mannheim. The university is therefore actively involved in various international networks and alliances, including the European university alliance ENGAGE.EU. We are happy to support you in initiating and developing international research collaborations and joint research projects. In the context of dual use and research security, this also means ensuring that collaborations are based on mutual trust, conducted securely, and beneficial to all parties involved. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Setting up and managing a research project
Your project has been approved for funding. What happens next? Once funding has been awarded, we take care of setting up your project account. To do so, we need an external funding notification. For all questions related to the administrative support of your project, please contact the External Funding team (Division V).
