Matthias Krause Elected Vice President

At its meeting on 6 May, the Senate of the University of Mannheim unanimously elected Prof. Dr. Matthias Krause as Vice‑President for Digitalization, Equal Opportunity, and Diversity on the proposal of President Prof. Thomas Fetzer.

Prof. Dr. Matthias Krause succeeds Prof. Dr. Heiko Paulheim, who stepped down from the position ahead of schedule in order to focus more strongly on his research given the significant momentum in his field of artificial intelligence. Prof. Krause’s term of office begins on 1 July 2026 and will end as scheduled on 30 September 2027.

“I am very pleased that Matthias Krause is once again taking on responsibility for the university and making his wide‑ranging expertise available to further advance digitalization, equal opportunity, and diversity,” said President Prof. Dr. Thomas Fetzer.

Krause has held the Chair of Theoretical Computer Science at the University of Mannheim since 2005. In the past, he has already been actively involved in university self‑governance on several occasions, including serving as Dean of the School Business Informatics and Mathematics from 2005 to 2008, as Vice‑President for Structural and Development Planning and Information Provision from 2010 to 2012, and as Deputy Chair of the University Supervisory Board from 2019 to 2024.
