The report informed about the research results of the study on cost dynamics of clean energy technologies by Rebecca Meier together with Stefan Reichelstein and Gunther Glenk.

The researchers were able to show that the costs of clean energy sources and storage such as solar modules, wind turbines, batteries or green hydrogen have fallen much faster than previously assumed. This has positive implications for the energy transition, for which it is crucial that the costs of green electricity fall as quickly as possible, as Rebecca Meier pointed out at the beginning of the interview.

She explained that the study results can also be used to evaluate current governmental goals, such as those of the US government. Its goal of cutting the cost for solar energy in half by 2030 would, for example, be realistic if the installed solar capacity was doubled every 7.3 years starting in 2020. In addition, the increased general awareness in business and politics regarding the urgency of the energy transition provides reasons for optimism, Meier concludes.

The interview was conducted by Campus-TV host Joachim Kaiser.
