Startup Lounge #125

CU Mehrweg

University of Mannheim

The MCEI Start-up Lounge – Your place for inspiration and networking in Mannheim’s start-up ecosystem.

How can reusable packaging become part of everyday grocery shopping? At the next Startup Lounge, we welcome Mette-Maria Meyer, Co-Founder of CU Mehrweg.

CU Mehrweg develops reusable packaging for food products in retail that can be returned through supermarket deposit machines – similar to the bottle return systems consumers already know. By integrating reusable packaging into existing deposit infrastructure, the startup aims to make circular packaging easy and scalable in everyday retail.

Over the past year, CU Mehrweg has launched products with five different customers, including market leaders in the nuts and confectionery sector. Mette has been working full-time at CU Mehrweg for more than two years and mainly leads the operational side of the company. The team has grown to around ten people and is based in Mannheim.

Mette is also an alumna of the University of Mannheim, where she completed her bachelor’s degree and first connected with thinc!.

At the Startup Lounge, she will share insights from building CU Mehrweg – from financing and team building to the operational challenges of bringing a circular packaging solution to market.
