Mehr WISSENschaft: Current Research Up Close — for All Ages
Lectures for children? Science in a bar? Speed-dating with researchers? What may sound unusual at first has become a popular fixture in the University of Mannheim’s public program. Through the Mehr WISSENschaft series, Mannheim scholars present current research in a range of engaging formats and unexpected settings, inviting audiences of all ages to experience scholarship “made in Mannheim” up close. All events are free and open to the public.

ExpressWISSEN
Researchers answer questions on current research topics such as deepfakes, children’s language acquisition, responsible leadership, or effective coalition building. Visitors can speak directly with scholars — either one-on-one or in small groups — to ask questions and share their own knowledge and experience.
WISSENsdurst
An academic happy hour in a relaxed bar setting. After a brief introductory talk, researchers answer questions from the audience. Who benefited from the Cum-Ex scandal? What does healthy eating really mean? What are the risks and side effects of AI? And why, exactly, is the banana blue?
RundumWISSEN
Major issues take center stage here: crisis management, the war in Ukraine, economic cycles, or constitutional questions. In public panel discussions, Mannheim researchers from across disciplines debate selected current topics. Questions from the audience are actively encouraged.
Kids’ University
Is university only for grown-ups? Quite the opposite. How do we make decisions? Why do people move to new places? What happens after a crime is committed? In this format, researchers introduce children to scientific thinking in a playful way, helping to spark a lasting enthusiasm for learning and discovery.
