Lectures for children? Science in a bar? Speed-dating with researchers? What may sound unusual at first has become a popular fixture in the University of Mannheim’s public program. Through the Mehr WISSENschaft series, Mannheim scholars present current research in a range of engaging formats and unexpected settings, inviting audiences of all ages to experience scholarship “made in Mannheim” up close. All events are free and open to the public.
Arpat Erken grew up in Western China and has been living in Mannheim for almost two years. During this time, he founded an international soccer team, completed several internships, and became involved in the departmental student committee for Business Administration. For his academic and social commitment, he receives the DAAD prize 2025.

Addressing these gender inequalities requires early action — ideally while students are still at university. One initiative taking this approach is Mynds, a student organization founded at the University of Mannheim in November 2023.
