Women in the Resistance against National Socialism

Andrea Horn, the university’s long-standing Equal Opportunity Commissioner for non-academic staff members, says goodbye with a public exhibition in the library.

After 25 years as Equal Opportunity Commissioner at the University of Mannheim — making her the longest-serving person in this role in the state of Baden-Württemberg — Andrea Horn retired at the end of 2025. To mark her departure, she organized the exhibition “Women in the Resistance against National Socialism” together with the University Library. The exhibition is on display at the Central Lending Library Schloss Schneckenhof West and will be open to the public until spring.

With the exhibition, Horn hopes to send a message as she leaves office: “I view current political developments around the world with great concern. Many people feel powerless to counter them as individuals. Through these women’s stories, I want to show how important each person’s involvement can be. Women in particular are often assumed to lack the courage to resist — but even the smallest action holds the power to change a situation.”
