Project bwKI Transfer – pilot use of AI solutions in university administration

Exchange of ideas and practical insights at the partner forum in Offenburg

The state project bwKI-Transfer (running from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2026), led by the University of Mannheim, aims to digitize and modernize university administration and reduce bureaucracy in administrative processes.

At the end of November, the partner forum “AI Impulses for Universities: Fundamentals, Practice, and Implementation” took place in Offenburg. In several specialist presentations, participants gained insights

  • into the EU AI Regulation (bwDigiRecht / HND-BW),
  • into data protection issues in AI applications (ZENDAS),
  • into strategies and guidelines for the use of AI at universities (KDU.NRW),
  • into change management in AI implementation (KDU.NRW), and
  • into an exemplary approach to introducing an AI tool (KI:connect.nrw).

The five universities involved in the project (the Universities of Mannheim, Heidelberg, Tübingen, Offenburg and Ravensburg-Weingarten) presented the results of their pilot projects to date in live demos – technical chatbots, automated protocol creation, SmartAssistant for information research, and the AI assistant F13.

The project is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts as part of the “Future Lab: Universities in the Digital World” dialogue process.
