Master's Programs
Admission requirements and selection criteria
To apply for our master’s programs, certain admission requirements have to be fulfilled. These can be certain subject-specific requirements of your bachelor’s program, but also other criteria such as a certain grade or proofs of language proficiency.
To participate in the admissions process, your application documents must prove that you fulfill these admission requirements, irrespective of whether the desired program of study is selective or not.
There are also selection criteria. By fulfilling the selection criteria, you can improve your chances of receiving a study place. Selection criteria may include internships, semester abroad, tests such as GMAT or GRE or text samples and letters of motivation.

Mannheim Master in Data Science
Admission requirements (subject to approval by the German Ministry of Science, Research and Arts)
If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for a master’s program as long as will provide a proof that you have obtained at least 130 ECTS credits.
- a bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade of 2.5 in computer science or mathematics or a related program (in particular bio-/geo-/financial/business informatics/
mathematics, technical/ applied informatics/ mathematics) or a computer science-related engineering program (in particular computer or software engineering) or a program recognized as equivalent by the admissions committee from a German or foreign higher education institution (including Berufsakademie) with at least 180 ECTS credits or a standard period of study of at least three years. The degree is considered equivalent if the program of study includes courses equivalent to at least 70 ECTS credits in informatics, mathematics, or statistics. - Proof of proficiency in English (may be submitted until 15 August or 15 January, respectively)
- If you are not part of one of the following groups:
- Applicants with German citizenship
- Applicants from countries of the European Union and the European Economic Area
- Applicants who hold a German university entrance qualification
- The German Feststellungsprüfung or a completed bachelor’s program in Germany is not considered as German university entrance qualification
- Applicants who are in the final semester of a bachelor's program in Germany or completed a bachelor's program in Germany
- Stateless applicants
you must also provide proof of a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score of at least 162 points in the area of quantitative reasoning and at least 151 points in the area of verbal reasoning. The results must not be older than five years. The cut-off date is the definitive deadline for application for the program of study.

Please note:
- The only selection criterion for applicants who must provide proof of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is the GRE score in the area of quantitative reasoning and verbal reasoning.

Mannheim Master in Management
Admission requirements
If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for a master’s program as long as will provide a proof that you have obtained at least 140 ECTS credits.
- Completion of a bachelor’s program at a German higher education institution or abroad (also Berufsakademie) corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits or a regular period of study of at least three years
- Courses in Business Administration corresponding to at least 36 ECTS credits
- Proof of proficiency in English (may be submitted by 15 August)
- Proof of proficiency in German (only for the German-English track)
Selection criteria
- The final grade or – for students still completing their degree – the grade average of the bachelor’s program
- a semester abroad during the program of study
- GMAT or GMAT Focus Edition or GRE result
- Commercial or similarly relevant professional activities
Mannheim Master in Social Data Science
Admission requirements
If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for the master’s program as long as you will provide proof that you have obtained at least 130 ECTS credits.
- Completion of a bachelor’s program in Social Sciences (in particular Sociology, Political Science, Psychology, or Media and Communication Studies) or Business Administration or Economics or a program recognized as equivalent by the admissions committee, completed with a grade of “good” or better (equivalent to the German grade of 2.5) at a German higher education institution or abroad (also Berufsakademie) and corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits or a regular period of study of at least three years.
- The program must include a total of at least 48 ECTS credits in informatics, mathematics, statistics, or empirical research methods.
- ECTS credits awarded for an empirical final thesis must be counted towards the 48 ETCS credits required, provided that the supervising university teacher issues a certificate confirming the empirical nature of the final thesis.
- Proof of proficiency in English (may be submitted by 15 August)

- Relevant professional activities
- Essay about a relevant research topic in English (5,000 to 10,000 words)
Master's Program in History
Admission requirements
If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for a master’s program as long as will provide a proof that you have obtained at least 135 ECTS credits.
- Completion of a bachelor’s program in History or a program recognized as equivalent, completed with a grade of “good” or better (equivalent to the German grade of 2.5) at a German higher education institution or abroad (also Berufsakademie) and corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits or a standard period of study of at least three years
- Proof of proficiency in German
Selection criteria
The selection criteria are irrelevant since this program of study is currently not selective.Master's Program in Intercultural German Studies
Admission requirements
If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for a master’s program as long as will provide a proof that you have obtained at least 140 ECTS credits.
- Completion of a bachelor’s program in German Studies or a related program recognized as equivalent, completed with a grade of “good” or better (equivalent to the German grade of 2.5) at a German higher education institution or abroad (also Berufsakademie) and corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits or a standard period of study of at least three years
- Proven proficiency in English (Level B2) (may be submitted by 15 August)
- Proof of proficiency in German

Master’s Program in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy
Admission requirements
If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for a master’s program as long as will provide a proof that you have obtained at least 120 ECTS credits.
- A bachelor’s degree in Psychology which fulfills the requirements under occupational law in accordance with section 9 subsection 4 sentence 5 alternative 1 of the law on the occupation of psychotherapists (PsychThG) or a degree which is considered equivalent to a bachelor’s degree which fulfills the requirements under occupational law in accordance with section 9 subsection 4 sentence 5 alternative 2. The degree must have been obtained at a university or a higher education institution equivalent to a university and correspond to at least 180 ECTS credits or a regular period of study of at least three years.
- The proof of compliance with the requirements under professional law must be provided in the form of a degree certificate, the Transcript of Records or an additional certificate of the higher education institution at which the bachelor’s program has been completed.
- The proof of equivalence must be provided in the form of a certificate of the higher education institution, at which the program has been completed or the Transcript of Records in combination with the module catalog of the completed program.

Selection criteria

- Result of the admission test
- The admission test for the master’s programs in Psychology may be taken at the University of Mannheim.
- Additional qualifications relevant to the program, including:
- practical experience gained in the course of employment, jobs or internships in health care, in an educational or pedagogical field of activity or in research and teaching in these or other areas of Psychology.
- scientific conference contributions and publications.
- A bachelor’s degree in Psychology which fulfills the requirements under occupational law in accordance with section 9 subsection 4 sentence 5 alternative 1 of the law on the occupation of psychotherapists (PsychThG) or a degree which is considered equivalent to a bachelor’s degree which fulfills the requirements under occupational law in accordance with section 9 subsection 4 sentence 5 alternative 2. The degree must have been obtained at a university or a higher education institution equivalent to a university and correspond to at least 180 ECTS credits or a regular period of study of at least three years.
Master's Program in Culture and Economy: English and American Studies
Admission requirements
If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for a master’s program as long as will provide a proof that you have obtained at least 135 ECTS credits.
- Completion of a bachelor's program in Culture and Economy: English and American Studies or a bachelor’s program in the Humanities, Business Administration or Economics recognized as equivalent, completed with a grade of “good” or better (equivalent to the German grade of 2.5) at a German higher education institution or abroad (also Berufsakademie) corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits or with a standard period of study of at least three years
- Depending on the combination major, the program must have courses in Business Administration or Economics corresponding to at least 36 ECTS credits and courses in Cultural Studies corresponding to at least a basic and an advanced module or equivalent courses in the core subject English and American Studies
- If you do not have the knowledge in Cultural studies, you can still apply, since you can acquire the required knowledge in Cultural Studies later on.
- Depending on the combination major, the program must have courses in Business Administration or Economics corresponding to at least 36 ECTS credits and courses in Cultural Studies corresponding to at least a basic and an advanced module or equivalent courses in the core subject English and American Studies
- Proven proficiency in English (Level C1)
- Proof of proficiency in German

Admission requirements
If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for a master’s program as long as will provide a proof that you have obtained at least 135 ECTS credits.
- Completion of a bachelor’s program in Culture and Economy: French Studies or a program in the Humanities, Business Administration or Economics recognized as equivalent, completed with a grade of “good” or better (equivalent to the German grade of 2.5) at a German higher education institution or abroad (also Berufsakademie), corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits or a standard period of study of three years
- Depending on the combination major, the program must have courses in Business Administration or Economics corresponding to at least 36 ECTS credits and courses in Literary Studies and/
or Linguistics (or Cultural Studies) corresponding to at least a basic and an advance module or equivalent courses in the core subject French Studies. - If you do not have this knowledge, you can still apply, since you can acquire the required knowledge in Literary and/
or Linguistics Studies (or Cultural Studies) later on.
- If you do not have this knowledge, you can still apply, since you can acquire the required knowledge in Literary and/
- Depending on the combination major, the program must have courses in Business Administration or Economics corresponding to at least 36 ECTS credits and courses in Literary Studies and/

- Depending on on your combination major, you have to have obtained at least 36 ECTS credits in the field of Business Administration or Economics as well as one basic and one advanced module in literature and/
or linguistics (or cultural studies) or equivalent qualifications in the core subject Spanish Studies - If you do not have this knowledge, you can still apply, since you can acquire the required knowledge in Literary and/

- Completion of a bachelor’s program in Culture and Economy: Italian Studies or a program in Business Administration, Economics or the Humanities recognized as equivalent, completed with a grade of “good” or better (equivalent to the German grade of 2.5) at a German higher education institution or abroad (also Berufsakademie), corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits or a standard period of study of at least three years.
- During your bachelor’s program you have to have obtained at least 36 ECTS credits in the field of Business Administration or Economics as well as one basic and one advanced module in literature and / or linguistics (or cultural studies) or equivalent qualifications in the core subject Italian Studies.
- If you do not have this knowledge, you can still apply, since you can acquire the required knowledge in Literary and/
or Linguistics Studies (or Cultural Studies) later on.
- If you do not have this knowledge, you can still apply, since you can acquire the required knowledge in Literary and/
- During your bachelor’s program you have to have obtained at least 36 ECTS credits in the field of Business Administration or Economics as well as one basic and one advanced module in literature and / or linguistics (or cultural studies) or equivalent qualifications in the core subject Italian Studies.

Admission requirements
If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for a master’s program as long as will provide a proof that you have obtained at least 135 ECTS credits.
- Completion of a bachelor’s program in Culture and Economy: Philosophy or a program recognized as equivalent in Humanities and/
or Business Administration or Economics, completed with a grade of “good” or better (equivalent to the German grade of 2.5) at a German higher education institution or abroad (also Berufsakademie) corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits or with a standard period of study of at least three years - Depending on the combination major, the program must have courses in Business Administration or Economics corresponding to at least 36 ECTS credits and courses in Philosophy corresponding to at least a basic and an advanced module or equivalent courses in the core subject Philosophy
- If the subject-specific knowledge in Philosophy is missing, you can still apply, since you can acquire this knowledge later on
- Depending on the combination major, the program must have courses in Business Administration or Economics corresponding to at least 36 ECTS credits and courses in Philosophy corresponding to at least a basic and an advanced module or equivalent courses in the core subject Philosophy

If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for a master’s program as long as will provide a proof that you have obtained at least 130 ECTS credits.
- Completion of a bachelor’s program in Culture and Economy: Media and Communication Studies or a program in Humanities and/
or Social Sciences recognized as equivalent, completed with a grade of “good” or better (equivalent to the German grade of 2.5) at a higher education institution in Germany or abroad (also Berufsakademie), corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits or a standard period of study of three years - During your bachelor’s program, you have to have obtained at least 36 ECTS credits in the field of Business Administration or Economics as well as courses corresponding to at least 28 ECTS credits in Media and Communication Studies or similar qualifications in Media and Communication Studies. In addition, the program must include relevant research and data analysis methods corresponding to at least 8 ECTS credits in the Media and Communication Studies courses or in other courses.

- Completion of a literature or philological bachelor’s program in English and American Studies, German Studies or Romance Studies or a program recognized as equivalent, completed with a grade of “good” or better (equivalent to the German grade of 2.5) at a German higher education institution or abroad (also Berufsakademie) with at least 180 ECTS credits or a standard period of study of at least three years
- The program is recognized as equivalent if the program includes at least a basic module and an advanced module in Literary Studies
- Proven proficiency in English (Level B2)
- Proof of proficiency in German

- Completion of a bachelor's program in Mathematics with Mathematics courses corresponding to at least 100 ECTS credits at a German higher education institution or abroad (also Berufsakademie) corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits or a regular period of study of at least three years
- Proof of proficiency in German
Selection criteria
- The final grade or – for students still completing their degree – the grade average of the bachelor’s program
- Relevant professional activities (vocational training, professional practice or internships) or academic experience (working on publications, as student assistant, teaching experience)
- Semester abroad
Master's Program in Media and Communication Studies: Digital Communication
Admission requirements
If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for a master’s program as long as will provide a proof that you have obtained at least 130 ECTS credits.
- Completion of a bachelor’s program in Media and Communication Studies, or a bachelor’s program in Social Sciences or Humanities recognized as equivalent with courses in Media and Communication Studies corresponding to at least 28 ECTS credits (or equivalent), completed with a grade of “good” or better (equivalent to the German grade of 2.5) at a German higher education institution or abroad (also Berufsakademie), corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits or a standard period of study of at least three years.
- In addition, the program must include relevant research and data analysis methods corresponding to at least 8 ECTS credits in the Media and Communication Studies courses or in other courses.
- Proof of proficiency in German
Selection criteria

Master of Comparative Business Law
Requirements for admission
If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for a master’s program as long as will provide a proof that you have obtained at least 190 ECTS credits.
- Completion of a program in Law or a program recognized as equivalent by the admissions committee with courses in Law corresponding to at least 20 ECTS credits at a German higher education institution or abroad (also Berufsakademie), corresponding to at least 240 ECTS credits or a regular period of study of at least four years
- Proof of proficiency in English
Selection criteria

Ethics, Political Science, Spanish, Economics and Business Administration Enrollment for the Master of Education (M.Ed) program for teaching at secondary schools (Gymnasium) requires that students have received a study place in two subjects of the degree program. There is an individual selection process for each subject.
Admission requirements
If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for a master’s program as long as will provide a proof that you have obtained at least 140 ECTS credits.
- Successful completion of a bachelor’s program in Teacher Education qualifying graduates to teach at secondary schools (Gymnasium) and including two subjects and their Teaching Methodology, Education Sciences and teaching practice at a higher education institution in Germany or abroad (also Berufsakademie), corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits or a period of study of at least three years
- In exceptional cases, admission is also possible after having completed a subject-specific bachelor’s program which includes teaching-related elements to the same extent
- Proof of subject-specific qualifications in the two subjects and their Teaching Methodology as well as Education Sciences corresponding to the qualifications in the bachelor's program in Teaching Education for teaching at secondary schools (Gymnasium).
- If you are not able to prove all subject-specific qualifications, the missing subject-specific qualifications must not exceed 50 ECTS credits.
- In the individual subjects, the missing subject-specific qualification must not exceed 20 ECTS credits.
- In Education Sciences and Teaching Methodology, the missing subject-specific qualification must not exceed 5 ECTS credits
- In Education Sciences, subject-specific qualifications corresponding to the competencies acquired in the first school placement with seminar (“Orientierungspraktikum mit Begleitseminar”) must be proven.
- If the subject-specific qualifications are missing, you can still apply, since you can acquire these qualifications later on.
- Completion of the first school placement

- In exceptional cases, it is possible to be admitted after having completed a bachelor’s program which includes teaching-related elements to the same degree and corresponds to at least 180 ECTS credits or a regular period of study of at least three years
- Proof of proficiency in other languages (depending on the subject)

Master's Program in Political Science

- Completion of a bachelor’s program in Political Science or a program recognized as equivalent, completed with a grade of “good” or better (equivalent to the German grade of 2.5) at a German higher education institution or abroad (also Berufsakademie) and corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits or a standard period of study of at least three years
- Good grades in the bachelor’s program (at least a grade of “good” or better, equivalent to the German grade of 2.5) in the field of methods of Empirical Social Research and Statistics
- Proof of proficiency in English (may be submitted by 15 August)

Master's Program in Psychology: Work, Economy and Society
Admission requirements
If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you may still apply for a master’s program as long as will provide a proof that you have obtained at least 120 ECTS credits.
- Completion of a bachelor’s program in Psychology or a program recognized as equivalent by the admissions committee with courses in Psychology corresponding to at least 50% at a German higher education institution or abroad (also Berufsakademie), corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits or a standard period of study of at least three years, including the following modules:
- Quantitative, mathematical or statistical methods (at least 10 ECTS credits)
- Empirical or experimental methods (at least 10 ECTS credits)
- Test Theory or Psychological Assessment (at least 10 ECTS credits),
- General Psychology 1, General Psychology 2, or Cognitive Psychology (at least 10 ECTS credits),
- Social Psychology (at least 6 ECTS credits)
- Work and Organizational Psychology, Consumer Psychology or Educational Psychology (at least 8 ECTS credits)

- Quantitative thesis are counted with a maximum of 6 ECTS credits towards the required 24 ECTS credits; crediting also requires a certificate from the thesis supervisor confirming the empirical-quantitative nature of the thesis.

- The bachelor's program must include at least 80 ECTS credits in Mathematics and at least 30 ECTS credits in Economics or Business Administration
