The easiest and quickest way to get around in Mannheim is by bike. Some streets have already been or are currently being converted into roads for cyclists only.

Renting bikes and cargo bikes
The Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar provides rental bikes at various locations all over the city. You can rent the bikes in each neighborhood at least at one station. There is no annual fee for students and the first 30 minutes of the journey are free. You have to register with your university e-mail address.
Buying secondhand bikes
Three times a year, there is a market for bikes at Alter Messplatz, where you can purchase secondhand bikes.

Parking bikes
In the city center, there are more than 1,700 parking spaces for bikes. All over the city, you can find parking spaces with charging stations for e-bikes as well as bike-and-ride spaces at tram and S-Bahn stations, where you can park your bike in a secure location.

Repair stations
Near the university, there are several public stations where cyclists can find tools and bike pumps they can use for free at any time.

Road bike racing with the Institute of Sports
The Institute of Sports at the University of Mannheim offers group training for road bike racers.
Traveling by bus and tram

Mannheim has a well-developed tram and bus network. The central station and Paradeplatz are the hubs of the city. There are two stops directly at the university: “Schloss” and “Universität.” During the day, trams run every ten minutes, in the evening, every twenty minutes.
If you want to travel beyond the borders of Mannheim, you can also easily reach the Palatinate or Heidelberg by public transport.
Fares for students
Students under the age of 27 can purchase a D-Ticket JugendBW, from the age of 27 onwards the Deutschlandticket. The former semester ticket does no longer exist at the University of Mannheim.
