Prof. Dr. Thomas Fetzer has been the new President of the University of Mannheim since 1 October 2024. Former President Prof. Dr. Thomas Puhl was bid farewell in a ceremony in September.
“MetaFin” is the title of a new five-year collaborative project of the Mannheim Institute for Financial Education (University of Mannheim and Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research) and the Institute for Economic Education (University of Oldenburg) which aims to make lasting changes in the research and spread of financial education in Germany.
Professor Dr. Thomas Puhl, former President of the University of Mannheim, was awarded the honorary doctoral degree “Doctor Honoris Causa” of the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) in Sofia on 25 September 2024.
The University of Mannheim is a key partner in the research consortium providing scientific support for the “Startchancen” program, a recent federal initiative aimed at improving equality of opportunity in education by supporting schools with a high proportion of underserved students. As part of this education initiative—the largest in German history—Mannheim professor Karina Karst will lead the Interdisciplinary Competence Center for “Data-Driven Quality Development” as well as a Transfer and Transformation Hub.
As of 1 October 2024, the Department of Equal Opportunity and Social Diversity has changed its name to Department of Equal Opportunity and Diversity. In German, the term soziale Vielfalt (social diversity) has been replaced with Diversität (diversity)—a shift that reflects a broader and more inclusive approach.
