Shanghai-Ranking

The University of Mannheim again performs 2025 very well in the Shanghai Ranking’s current “Global Ranking of Academic Subjects” (GRAS). In the “Social Sciences” category, which also includes Economic Sciences and Communication Studies, it is one of the top three universities in Germany in six of the eleven subjects listed.

In Political Science, the university ranks second in Germany and 40th worldwide. In Psychology, it has reached a shared second place. In Business Administration, Finance, Management, and Communication Studies, the university is ranked third in Germany. In Economics, it has achieved a shared fourth place, in Sociology a shared sixth place.

GEURS

The University of Mannheim has improved in this year’s Global Employability University Ranking and Survey (GEURS), placing in the top ten in Germany. This year, the University of Mannheim has been ranked number 125 globally, improving on last year’s ranking by 14 places. In a Germany-wide comparison, the university has thus reached tenth place.

The ranking is based on a survey by the French consulting firm Emerging and is published by Times Higher Education (THE). Human resources managers from a total of 32 countries and various sectors were asked for their opinions on which higher education institutions had the best graduates. They could choose from the 250 best universities worldwide and had to give reasons for their choices. The results show that they value provable skills and adaptability more than static references. The graduates’ competencies and professional experience are the most important factors when evaluating their employability.

QS Sustainability Ranking

The University of Mannheim moved up 125 places in the 2025 QS Sustainability Ranking compared with last year. The ranking highlights particularly strong progress in both research and teaching. Interdisciplinary degree programs, along with opportunities such as the “Studium Oecologicum,” help integrate sustainability topics into the curriculum. The university also improved its already strong scores in the categories “Governance” and “Social Impact.”

The QS Sustainability Ranking assesses universities worldwide on their environmental responsibility, social impact, and institutional governance. It recognizes institutions whose research, teaching, and campus operations make a meaningful contribution to addressing global challenges such as climate change, social justice, and civic responsibility.

CHE-Masterranking

The University of Mannheim is an excellent place to study Psychology at master’s level. This is shown by the results of the latest CHE University Ranking for the master’s programs in “Work, Economy and Society” and “Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy.” The subject ranks in the top group for 14 out of 15 indicators—both in students’ assessments and with respect to the facts collected.

To rank the universities, the CHE regularly conducts a survey among enrolled students. The results of their assessments of Psychology at the University of Mannheim are very good (in each case between 4 and 4.7 out of a maximum of 5 stars) in all of the ten categories evaluated. Support for stays abroad has been rated as being particularly good, with the University of Mannheim receiving a score of 0.9 points above the average of all universities evaluated. Overall, the score of the University of Mannheim is above average in almost all overall categories. 

The subject has also achieved top rankings with respect to research: in the “publications per academic,” “citations per publication,” and “doctorates per professor” categories, Psychology at the University of Mannheim is in the top group.
