Carbon Footprint of the University

The University of Mannheim sources 100 percent green electricity. This means that certificates were purchased for the green electricity procured. The production of green electricity generates no direct emissions. Using the market-based approach, these certificates are accounted for, resulting in zero emissions for electricity consumption.

Alternatively, the location-based method can be used. This approach calculates the actual physical electricity consumed. For this calculation, the emission factors of the German electricity mix were used.
