Gunther Glenk new researcher at MISES

In May 2019 the Mannheim Institute for Sustainable Energy Studies (MISES) welcomed Gunther Glenk as post-doctoral researcher. Gunther Glenk joined MISES coming from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) where he recently acquired a doctor´s degree with distinction at the intersection of management and technology. He looks forward to the time in Mannheim saying: “The University of Mannheim provides fantastic conditions for excellent research work.”

Gunther Glenk has broad experience in research with numerous international research visits. For instance, he has worked with renowned economists at Stanford University and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His last project, which came out of the collaboration with Professor Stefan Reichelstein (MISES Director) has recently been published in the leading journal for energy research “Nature Energy” and was accompanied by a considerable press coverage. Gunther Glenk´s work has been recognized with multiple awards and scholarships, for example by TUM, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) or the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

His work examines the economics of sustainable energy systems and combines methods of chemical and energy technology with those of the economic sciences. Current research addresses questions on the competitiveness of sustainable energies, energy storage and clean drive systems. Gunther Glenk’s dissertation analyses the “Economics of Renewable Hydrogen” and shows that hydrogen produced by sustainable energy could profitably reduce carbon emissions in industry and transport already today. These findings substantiate the potential of hydrogen to become a main component of a decarbonized economy.
