New Project: SMART-AGE

Prof. Beatrice G. Kuhlmann is involved in a research project about digital assistance systems

Prof. Beatrice G. Kuhlmann is one of the scientists involved in a large-scale research project under the title: “Smart Aging in a communal context: Research on intelligent ways of self-regulation and co-regulation in a real-life context” (SMART-AGE). The project is funded by the Carl-Zeiss foundation with around 4.5 million Euros. The interdisciplinary research, which is mainly coordinated by the University of Heidelberg, is connecting scientists from different fields, namely medicine, psychology, sociology, sport science, and computer science, from the Universities of Mannheim and Heidelberg. The project aims at a better understanding and supporting successful usage of digital assistance systems, which facilitate aging. For instance, these include ways of social networking, the acquisition of health information, or help in case of limited physical functionality using an exoskeleton. Prof. Kuhlmann will particularly examine cognitive requirements like attention and memory performance. From April 2021 onwards, Anton Schönstein (M. Sc., Heidelberg University) will also collaborate with our team.
