Students at the University of Mannheim are Using Environmentally Friendly Ways of Getting Around

The results of the latest student survey show: Many students are already very environmentally friendly when it comes to getting around. About half of the participants live less than 5 km from the university. Around a third of them commute to university on foot or by bike, more than half of them use public transportation, and less than 10% commute by car.

This shows that the university is very well located: The proximity to the city center, the good connections to local and long-distance public transportation, and the surrounding Nextbike stations enable students to travel to the university in an environmentally friendly way, either on foot or by bike or public transportation. Approximately three quarters of the survey participants are satisfied with their commute at the moment.

The students also stated specific wishes regarding measures to further encourage environmentally friendly commuting habits: In addition to more Nextbike stations and bikes, additional parking facilities for bikes, and an improved bicycle infrastructure in the city center, they also asked for lower public transportation prices for all age groups, better connections, and more comprehensive information.

The next step will be to use the survey results to identify fields of action and develop targeted measures to make commuting by bike, public transportation, or on foot even more attractive. The wish for more information on the university's website has already been fulfilled.
