20th Anniversary of the University of Mannheim Foundation
Founded 20 years ago with EUR 800,000, the University of Mannheim Foundation now manages over EUR 1.03 million. The foundation was established by the Freunde der Universität Mannheim and ABSOLVENTUM on 1 January 2025 with the purpose of permanently securing the competitive capacity of the University of Mannheim. Since then, the foundation has supported promising projects in research and teaching and has thus facilitated possibilities for the university to research future topics such as digital transformation or the energy transition and to contribute to society. Promoting equal opportunities by awarding Opportunity Mannheim Scholarships is also part of the foundation’s portfolio. Below, we would like to show you the milestones of the University of Mannheim Foundation over the last 20 years.
2005 | Establishment of the University of Mannheim Foundation |

“The University of Mannheim Foundation is based on an idea and initiative by the Freunde der Universität Mannheim, which was still called Gesellschaft der Freunde der University (GdF) back then. On 2 January 2000, Prof. Carl-Heinrich Esser, Dr. Harald Maurer, and I established the predecessor of the foundation. After ABSOLVENTUM established another foundation in the meantime, the boards of both associations agreed to join forces and merge the foundations. This led to the creation of the current University of Mannheim Foundation in 2005.”
