2025 EITM Summer Institute

A5

The University of Mannheim and EITM Europe are inviting PhD-students and junior faculty to our 2025 EITM Summer Institute “Democratic Representation and its Challenges”.

The Empirical Implications of Theoretical Models (EITM) Summer Institute is a training program, developed in the United States for graduate students and junior faculty, on the development and application of research designs that integrate theoretical models with empirical research to advance our understanding of politics. The EITM Europe is a similar program, based in Europe and directed by Thomas König of the University of Mannheim, Germany.

In 2025, the program offers:

  • instruction by leading scholars in the discipline on the use and integration of cutting-edge theoretical and empirical methodological tools,
  • a deeper understanding of theoretical and methodological foundations that are necessary for publishing in leading scholarly journals,
  • support and feedback on participants' own research by EITM faculty and participants, who aim to become experts in the field of their study,
  • an opportunity to collaborate on research with fellow participants in a small-group setting, and
  • a network of former and current EITM participants and faculty that will provide constructive engagement long after the institute concludes.

The Summer Institute will consist of theoretical and methodological foundations in the first week, followed by a week applying these tools and techniques to the study of democratic representation.

Deadline for applying: 31 March 2025

The EITM is sponsored by engage.eu and ECPR. There is no tuition fee but participants need to cover traveling and accommodation.
