School of Social Sciences welcomes new Assistant Professor

Valentin Lang is new Assistant Professor for International Political Economy and Development

On August 1, Valentin Lang joined the Department of Political Science at the School of Social Sciences as Assistant Professor for International Political Economy and Development.

After studying political science, international relations, and economics at the Universities of Cambridge, Mannheim, Heidelberg, and Paris, Lang completed his Ph.D. at Heidelberg University in 2018 with a thesis on the political economy of international organizations. Before coming to Mannheim, he was a post-doc in international relations and political economy at the University of Zurich. His research focuses on the political, economic, and distributional implications of globalization and global governance.

‘Most of my current projects either examine the effects and decisions of international organizations such as the IMF, World Bank, UN and the EU or focus on the causes of economic inequalities. I am very much looking forward to getting the students of the University of Mannheim excited about the field of international political economy and development.‘ In the upcoming fall semester Lang will offer two courses in the B.A. program: the lecture “Einführung in die Internationalen Beziehungen“ and the introductory seminar “Einführung in die Internationalen Beziehungen: International Organizations“.
