Approved AI Systems
The HAWKI platform (user interface in German only) is currently the only approved way for you to use AI-based language models (LLMs) in an official context or for your studies.
HAWKI is a data-protection-compliant interface for using generative AI where didactic aspects have been taken into account. It has been developed by the Interaction Design Lab at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hildesheim (HAWK) as an open-source application. You can use your Uni-ID to access the version of the AI model ChatGPT provided there for you.
Notes regarding use
If you are not sure whether your current level of AI competence is sufficient, you have to complete the AI quiz on the learning platform ILIAS before using any AI systems in an official context. ChatGPT has been available for you since 1 September 2025. The quiz can be found at the end of the self-study module.
- The quiz is considered successfully completed if you have answered 70 percent of the questions correctly.
- If less than 70 percent of your answers are correct, you have to work through the “AI Basics” training module.
- After completing this module, you can take the quiz again. If you then achieve a 70 percent score, you are allowed to use HAWKI.
Complying with data protection provisions
When using AI systems, please make sure not to enter any confidential or personal data. You are only allowed to enter such data if the person or body affected has explicitly allowed you to do so. Further information on how data is classified based on the TLP can be found on the UNIT website.
Please note: AI applications other than HAWKI may currently only be used for the purpose of research and teaching.
