Openness in and with AI

Thomas Schmidt, Vanessa Kolb

Research Skills – Research Data Management Seminars

Generative AI is increasingly applied in research and can support the implementation of FAIR and open research practices. But when AI models, infrastructures and tools themselves are closed systems, they fail to conform to good research practices and principles of Open Science such as transparency, accountability and reproducibility.

This talk gives an overview of what openness can mean in the context of AI and the benefits and possibilities of open AI infrastructures for research practices. We will also give hands-on insights into specific ways to access and work with open (source) AI.
