Postdoctoral Fellowships 2024 of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation

With this program, the foundation supports independent research projects by postdocs.

Funding amount
Up to EUR 150,000 can be applied for over a period of three years. For each project, the foundation expects an own contribution of at least 10 % of the requested sum. The President’s Office of the university decided in 2011 that this own contribution must be provided by the applicant's chair/institution. Junior professors are also eligible to apply, as long as their junior professorship has no tenure track option. The applicant's position itself may not be paid from the funds of the program. The position must be financed from the university's budget or other third-party funds.

Application documents
Since the University of Mannheim can only submit four proposals, there is an internal selection process (first stage). For this purpose, we ask for a short proposal containing the following documents:

  • short outline of the planned project (max. 3 pages),
  • CV,
  • list of publications,
  • planned budget,
  • confirmation of the chair/institute that the contribution of 10 % will be provided for.

Please send the short proposals for the internal selection by Thursday, 29 February 2024 via e-mail attached as one (1) pdf-document to Katharina Bolle (katharina.bollemail-uni-mannheim.de), Division I.

Selection process
An internal committee chaired by the Vice-president for Research and Early-Stage Researchers, Professor Henning Hillmann, will select four applications from the available proposals and will invite the corresponding applicants to submit a full proposal (second stage). All applicants will be informed about the results of the pre-selection until end-March.

After Division I has informed the Baden-Württemberg Foundation, the applicants will receive their individual access data for the applicant platform. The platform will be available from 2 May 2024. The prepared applications are to be uploaded there by the applicants themselves. All application documents must be uploaded by 16 May 2024(noon) at the latest.

Before the final submission of all application documents (see Call for Proposals, p. 6ff.), they must be formally reviewed by Division I in advance. The full proposal must therefore be sent by e-mail as one (1) PDF document to Katharina Bolle by 6 May 2024 at the latest.
