QS Ranking

In the latest QS World University Rankings, the University of Mannheim is ranked 22nd nationally. Internationally, it ranks 416th out of over 1,500 universities, improving its position by 71 places compared to 2025.

The University of Mannheim achieved a particularly good result for the “Employer Reputation” indicator: In a global comparison, it ranks 120th, placing it among the top 8 percent of the universities ranked. In a Germany-wide comparison, this even means 6th place. “Employers recognize the high-quality education we offer our students. In addition to the improvement in the overall ranking, I am particularly pleased about this,” says Professor Dr. Thomas Fetzer, President of the University of Mannheim.

In the QS World University Rankings, higher education institutions are evaluated based on ten indicators. In addition to the “employer reputation”, the academic reputation and the average number of citations of researchers are evaluated in the area of research, for example. Aspects of internationality, such as the proportion of international researchers and students and the international academic network, are also analyzed.

QS Ranking by Subject

The University of Mannheim also achieved success in the subject rankings published by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). In the category “Social Sciences and Management” of the QS World University Ranking by Subject 2025, the university has climbed 45 places to reach 91st place worldwide. In Germany, it is the second-best university in this category.

The university achieves particularly strong results in business and economics: it is ranked first in Germany in accounting and finance, second in business and management studies and third in economics and econometrics. This means that it remains the leading German university in this field.

In national comparison, the University of Mannheim is also very well ranked in other disciplines: in political science and psychology (the latter in the category “Life Sciences”), it achieves a shared fourth place, and a shared fifth place in sociology. It is also among the top ten German universities in statistics, and communication and media studies.

CHE Ranking

Once again, the University of Mannheim has been ranked highly in the latest university ranking of the Centre for Higher Education (Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung (CHE)). It received top ratings in nearly all categories for Psychology and Romance Studies, highlighting the exceptional quality of its academic programs. The German Studies program achieved impressive results, particularly in the organization of the academic program and the guidance offered to students at the outset of their studies. Over the years, the University of Mannheim has consistently ranked among the top institutions in the CHE rankings, excelling in fields such as business administration, economics, political science, sociology, business informatics, and law.

The bachelor's programs “Culture and Economy: German Studies” and “Culture and Economy: Romance Studies” as well as the degree programs “Romance Studies: Language, Literature and Media” and “German Studies: Language, Literature and Media” were all analyzed.

The University of Mannheim ranks highly in 14 out of 16 categories within Romance Studies.
