GBP Monitor: In Times of Crisis, Managers Continue to Focus Primarily on Balance Sheet Profits, while Social Goals Take a Backseat
Despite the many discussions about corporate social responsibility: Only 11.1 percent of companies in Germany consider non-financial key performance indicators such as employee satisfaction, energy consumption or gender quota as criteria for business success. This is even 3.6 percentage points less than in the previous year. This is documented in the December report of the German Business Panel (GBP) at the University of Mannheim.

Senate of the University of Mannheim Elects New Vice President
In its meeting on 7 December 2022, the Senate of the University of Mannheim has elect-ed Professor Dr. Moritz Fleischmann as new Vice President for Sustainability and Infor-mation Provision. The Senate elected the Professor from the university’s Business School in a clear vote.

ERC Grant for Mannheim Sociologist Lars Leszczensky for Research on the Future of Social Interaction
The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded a prestigious ERC Starting Grant to Mannheim Sociologist Dr. Lars Leszczensky. The researcher will receive approx. 1.5 million euros to analyze how the social contacts of children influence those of their parents, and vice versa.

GBP Monitor: Companies in Germany Are Reluctant to Adapt to the Digital Age
More than 40 percent of the companies in Germany are affected by the property tax reform and have to provide information on real estate property. However, less than half of them use the reform as a reason to digitize the underlying business processes. GBP Monitor: Energy-Intensive Companies Plan to Increase Prices by an Average of 17 Percent during the Next 12 Months
The October report of the German Business Panel (GBP) shows: Companies in Germany are expecting a persistently high inflation of more than 10 percent for the following year. This has considerable effects on the companies’ pricing. Companies from energy-intensive industries, in particular, are planning to substantially increase their prices – on average by 16.7 percent. The companies’ expectations of a higher inflation thus fuel the actual inflation.

New Research Project Will Analyze Genetic Newborn Screening with Regard to Legal Implications, Values, Ethics, and Society
For their research project “NEW_LIVES”, researchers of Heidelberg University Hospital and the University of Mannheim will receive funding of several millions of euros from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Professor Dr. Dr. Eva Winkler from Heidelberg University Hospital will lead the collaborative project. Mannheim Law professor Dr. Ralf Müller-Terpitz will analzye the legal aspects of the project.

Profit expectations of businesses fell to a new low in July. Companies will continue to cut investments drastically. Therefore, demands for new government aids are renewed. The industries hit hardest by the coronavirus crisis, in particular, are in need of more state aids. The lessons learned from the past government aid packages can help create effective measures.

GBP Monitor: Companies’ Satisfaction with the Government’s Economic Policy Hits Annual Low
Due to the energy crisis and planning uncertainty, German companies are currently particularly dissatisfied with the government’s economic policy. This is documented in the July report of the German Business Panel (GBP) at the University of Mannheim. Industries that depend on gas supply are particularly frustrated, since the possible gas supply shortage and the uncertainty that comes with it makes it impossible for them to make longterm decisions. The continuing decline in profits is also contributing to the bad mood in the industry.
