New Executive Vice President of the University of Mannheim Elected

Dr. Katrin Schoppa-Bauer will take over the office from Barbara Windscheid on 1 January.

In a joint meeting, the Senate and the University Supervisory Board have elected Dr. Katrin Schoppa-Bauer as new Executive Vice President of the University of Mannheim. On 1 January 2023, Dr. Katrin Schoppa-Bauer, a lawyer, will take over from Barbara Windscheid, who will retire after six years as Executive Vice President of the university.

The Executive Vice President is the second full-time member of the President's Office and is in charge of the university’s personnel and budget administration. At the same time, the Executive Vice President heads the central administration. The term of office is six years.

Dr. Katrin Schoppa-Bauer has many years of experience of working in the university’s administration and management. After studying law at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, she was a trainee lawyer in Kaiserslautern, Mainz, and Wiesbaden. After the second state examination in law, she worked as an academic staff member at the chair of administrative sciences, development policy and public law, held by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Rainer Pitschas in Speyer. In 2011, she obtained a doctoral degree (Dr. iur.). In the same year, she became manager of the Department of Law of the School of Law and Economics at the University of Mannheim. From 2018 onwards, she worked for the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts Baden-Württemberg and returned to the University of Mannheim two years later. Since the beginning of 2021, she has been managing the Executive Office of the President.

Professor Dr. Thomas Puhl is happy about the result of the election: “Dr. Katrin Schoppa-Bauer is the perfect candidate. I am looking forward to leading the university together with her. In the upcoming years, we have to tackle big projects such as strengthening the digitalization and securing the funding of our university. I am sure that Dr. Schoppa-Bauer will continue the great work of the current Executive Vice President, Barbara Windscheid. Not only has she legal expertise and excellent knowledge of the university’s structures but also she is an experienced leader and is well connected within and outside the university.
