Research Focus Areas
The University of Mannheim has six main areas of research. These are characterized by close collaboration with other research institutions in Mannheim and integration into national and international networks.
Other research areas
The Mannheim research landscape also includes a whole range of research projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
An example is the SILPAC project, led by Mannheim-based linguist Professor Dr. Carola Trips. SILPAC stands for Structuring the Input in Language Processing, Acquisition, and Change. The aim of the project is to examine language change not only from a historical perspective, but also from a psycholinguistic perspective, thereby establishing a new discipline in linguistics. The DFG is funding the project with 3.5 million euros until 2026.
The university is committed to the education of doctoral students in the Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences (GESS) and supports young researchers in the early stages of their careers.
ERC Grants
Five researchers from the University of Mannheim currently receive a prestigious ERC Grant from the European Research Council (ERC).
