Course Registration for International Exchange Students
You decided which courses you would like to take during your exchange semester(s) at the University of Mannheim and are wondering how to register for them? The User Manuals will show you how to register for courses.
For most seminars, lectures, exercises, etc. you have to register on Portal². The course catalogue provides information on where to register for courses.
The registration process and registration periods may differ slightly from department to department. The departments, therefore, provide information on how to register for their courses below. In your admission letter, you can find out for which department you were nominated.
Kindly note: If you participate in one of the Double Degree Programs, course selections works differently and you will receive separate information directly from the coordinator of your Double Degree. Please follow the instructions of your coordinator and register for courses after enrollment.

Registration for the language courses offered by Studium Generale differs from your academic courses. Please read below how to register for these courses.
Courses on German Language and Culture
As exchange students, you will be able to obtain ECTS credits for courses on German language and culture. The courses on German culture, e.g. Understanding Contemporary Germany, are taught in English, while the language of instruction for the language courses is German.
You can register for the courses on German language and culture on Portal².

Other Foreign Language Courses
You can find information on the course offer, course registration, as well as course fees on the Website of Studium Generale.
Through the offer of Studium Generale, you can learn a foreign language other than German, such as Spanish, Turkish, Chinese, etc. It is not possible to receive ECTS credits for courses by Studium Generale. You need to have a good level of German language proficiency in order to be able to participate in these courses because they are taught in German. In order to attend courses offered as part of the Studium Generale you need to complete the online application in time.
