Media and Information Services Specialist for Libraries (FaMI)

As a media and information services specialist at the University Library, you can expect to become acquainted with a wide range of tasks. You will advise users, help them with their search inquiries, or assist them in the use of electronic media. You will order new media of all kinds, record them in the library system, and process invoices. You will also gain an insight into all areas of work at the University Library, including the areas of public relations, IT, and research data management, among others.

    • Facts and figures about the training

      Duration of the vocational training: Three years (may be reduced to two years where applicable)

      Start of training: On 1 September of each year

      Vocational training pay: Payment according to TVA-L BBiG

      Training structure:

      • On-the-job training in the areas and departments of the Mannheim University Library;
      • Berufsschule Calw (vocational school, block instruction in sections of two to five weeks each);
      • Internships at other libraries and media and information services institutions such as bookstores, press offices, archives, documentation centers, and others.
    • Required skills and qualifications

      • You love interacting with people and dealing with books and electronic media and enjoy structuring and organizing
      • At least an intermediate school leaving certificate by the start of the vocational training
      • Good knowledge of German and English
      • Sound educational background
      • Pleasure in dealing with people and good communication skills
      • Diligence and ability to concentrate
      • Reliable computer skills and interest in information technology
