Survey on Care Responsibilities and Work: Staff members in administration included for the first time

25 February 2026
Care responsibilities are part of everyday life for many people—whether in the form of childcare, caring for relatives, or other supportive roles. To further improve the reconciliation of work and care responsibilities at the University of Mannheim, a survey of all staff members and doctoral students will be launched from 23 February.
Following an initial survey conducted in 2022 that focused on academic staff, this year’s survey will, for the first time, also include staff members working in administration, the University Library, and University IT. The survey gathers information on individual life circumstances, stress factors, and potential support needs—regardless of whether respondents are currently providing care.
Turning Results into Action
The previous survey revealed, among other findings, that many staff members were not sufficiently aware of existing services and contacts. As a result, communication measures were specifically enhanced. The current survey represents another important step toward strengthening the university’s commitment to being family- and care-friendly.
Participation is via a personal link, which will be sent by e-mail later this day. The survey is anonymous, and individual responses cannot be traced back to participants. Completing the survey takes approximately 10–20 minutes. The survey will remain open until 9 March 2026. The University of Mannheim and the Department of Equal Opportunity and Diversity sincerely thank you in advance for your support and look forward to your participation.
