Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee at the University of Mannheim assesses the ethical and legal aspects of security-relevant research, or research that involves human participants or personal data. The Ethics Committee provides assistance to researchers by advising on and evaluating their research projects. The extended composition of the Ethics Committee decides on security-relevant research.

Please note when submitting your application: 

  • Please always use the form below from our website to submit your application (and not an old form that you have already submitted), as we are continuously updating it.
  • All documents relating to the study that are necessary for a consultation must be submitted to the ethics committee. This also includes the applied study material (information leaflets and consent forms, questionnaires, images/texts/videos/etc.).
  • When planning your study, keep in mind that the ethics committee's vote may result in the need for changes to these documents, the study design, or the data management.
  • The ethics committee approval process takes four to five weeks.
     
    For questions regarding data processing prior to study submission: The University's Data Protection Officer (Jan Morgenstern) and his team offer a comprehensive range of services on the topic of “Data Protection in Research”. Due to vacations, no applications will be evaluated from 24 December 2025 to 6 January 2026. The normal processing time of 4 weeks is extended accordingly.
