The GIP at the GOR 2025

From March 31 to April 2, this year’s GOR conference took place at the Free University of Berlin. The GIP was represented with two contributions.

Dr. Tobias Rettig presented exciting findings on panel mortality based on the German Internet Panel. He examined which dropout patterns and corresponding warning signs emerge in a long-term, high-frequency probability-based online panel. His lecture on this central issue in panel studies attracted great interest.

In addition, the GIP also participated in the poster session. Our colleague Carolin Bahm presented results from an experiment on questionnaire modularization, providing important impulses for questionnaire design. The insights gained have already been incorporated into the questionnaire structure of the GIP.

Furthermore, Tobias Rettig served as the chair of the jury for the GOR Poster Award. This year, two posters were awarded: Emma Zaal, Yfke Ongena, and John Hoeks (University of Groningen) impressed with “Everybody does it sometimes: Reducing Social Desirability Bias in an Online Survey Using Face-Saving Strategies.” Also recognized were Sina Chen and Barbara Binder (GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences) for “Who Donates Their Google Search Data? Participation in a Data Donation Study During the 2025 German Federal Election.”
