Diversity Strategy Reaches Drafting Phase

Thanks to the successful completion of the Diversity Audit “Vielfalt gestalten”, many measures have already been implemented that strengthen the University of Mannheim’s commitment to a diverse and inclusive university culture. But the diversity work continues: the Department of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, together with other members of the university, is currently developing the first Diversity Strategy for the University of Mannheim.

The development of the Diversity Strategy is now entering its next phase. After a year of exchange with the community – including two Round Tables in May and November 2025, a dedicated Forum, and an online consultation – the Department of Equal Opportunity and Diversity is now preparing the first draft of the strategy.

The process so far has been shaped by broad participation across the university. The two Round Tables in May and November brought together around 30 people each from all of the University of Mannheim community. These meetings helped define a shared vision for a diverse university and identify essential, strategic, and long-term goals.

In December and January, discussions with key stakeholders are planned to align the proposed goals with existing university structures. After that, the draft will move through several committees. The publication of the strategy is scheduled for the second half of 2026. The aim is to create a document that is ambitious while remaining grounded in the daily realities of the university.

Anyone who would like to get involved or share feedback can contact diversitymail-uni-mannheim.de at any time. The Transformation Diversity Team of the Department of Equal Opportunity and Diversity welcomes feedback and perspectives from the entire community – from students as well as academic and non-academic staff.
