Flags at half-mast at the University of Mannheim

On Friday, 31 May 2024, a man attacked several people with a knife at a rally on Mannheim's market square, seriously injuring six of them. A police officer who intervened was also attacked and was severely wounded. The police officer died of his serious injuries on Sunday.

The University of Mannheim is deeply shocked by the brutal act in the heart of Mannheim and in particular by the death of the police officer. Our thoughts are with the deceased, his family and his colleagues. We hope that everyone else who was injured will make a full recovery.

Mayor Christian Specht has ordered flags to be flown at half-mast at Mannheim City Hall from today. The University of Mannheim decided to lower its flags to half-mast as well.
