Joint Programme Summer Seminar in Mannheim

From 7 to 11 July 2025, the University of Mannheim hosts the third Summer Seminar of the ENGAGE.EU Joint Programme in Digital Transformation. During this event, 34 students from the nine ENGAGE.EU partner universities come together to work on practical case studies.

Over the past few weeks, the participants gained valuable background knowledge in digital block seminars. Now, they are putting this knowledge into practice in interdisciplinary teams. During the one-week summer seminar, they will tackle real-world challenges and questions from the digital transformation—provided by our partner companies SAP, BASF, Pepperl+Fuchs, the City of Heidelberg, Roche, Heidelberg University Hospital and the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region.

“The ENGAGE.EU Summer Seminar is a great program for international exchange. In Mannheim as a city of innovation, you will get to know big players for digital transformation and can benefit from the diversity among the participants”, said Prof. Dr. Moritz Fleischmann, Vice President for Sustainability and International Affairs in his welcome speech on Monday. “Inclusion and diversity are the declared aim of ENGAGE.EU. With our innovative programs, we want to help transform the university landscape and you [the participants] as well,” added Sabine Sainte-Rose, Secretary General of ENGAGE.EU.

A notable highlight was the keynote speech by Nik Sacher, Vice President and Head of Outbound Partner Ecosystem from SAP Business AI, who provided inspiring impetus in his presentation on “SAP’s Vision: Business AI”. The focus was on topics such as the possible applications of AI in companies.

In addition to the intensive content-related work, participants enjoy a varied social program: an excursion to the picturesque old town of Heidelberg, a visit to Schwetzingen Palace Gardens, and drinks together will also contribute to intercultural exchange and strengthen networking.
