The University of Mannheim and the School of Humanities mourn the loss of Dr. Jürgen Landwehr, who passed away on 3 March 2025 at the age of 83

The University of Mannheim and the Faculty of Humanities mourn the loss of Dr. Jürgen Landwehr, who passed away on 3 March 2025 at the age of 83.
Jürgen Landwehr was born in 1941. With the study Text und Fiktion. Zu einigen literaturwissenschaftlichen und kommunikationstheoretischen Grundbegriffen, he received his doctorate from the University of Mannheim in 1975. From 1969 to 2004, he worked at the Chair of Neuere Germanistik Studies I, most recently as senior academic advisor. His academic interests included the fields of literary history, poetics, cultural theory and methodology of literary studies, on which he has published numerous works. In addition, Jürgen Landwehr played a leading role in the development of the modularized Bachelor's and Master's degree courses in German Studies at the University of Mannheim. With great personal commitment, he also established the cooperation between the University of Mannheim and Bronnbach Monastery in the Tauber Valley. It is thanks to his efforts that an agreement was concluded with the Main-Tauber district to create an official university conference center at Bronnbach Monastery. He was awarded the University Medal in 2012 for his services to this collaboration. The University will honor his memory.
