The University of Mannheim is an excellent place to study Psychology at master’s level. This is shown by the results of the latest CHE University Ranking for the master’s programs in “Work, Economy and Society” and “Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy.” The subject ranks in the top group for 14 out of 15 indicators—both in students’ assessments and with respect to the facts collected.

To rank the universities, the CHE regularly conducts a survey among enrolled students. The results of their assessments of Psychology at the University of Mannheim are very good (in each case between 4 and 4.7 out of a maximum of 5 stars) in all of the ten categories evaluated—overall study situation, teacher support, study organization, courses offered, support in studies, digital teaching elements, research orientation, practical orientation in teaching, transition to master’s studies, and support for stays abroad. Support for stays abroad has been rated as being particularly good, with the University of Mannheim receiving a score of 0.9 points above the average of all universities evaluated. Overall, the score of the University of Mannheim is above average in almost all overall categories.

The subject has also achieved top rankings with respect to research: in the “publications per academic,” “citations per publication,” and “doctorates per professor” categories, Psychology at the University of Mannheim is in the top group.

According to the CHE survey, students also benefit from the close interconnection between research and teaching, for example by way of involvement in projects early on and a high proportion of research-oriented modules. Aspects that were particularly emphasized were the strong orientation toward current research and the opportunity to independently perform research work as part of seminars and projects. In direct comparison with other higher education institutions, these aspects received an above average rating.

The CHE University Ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed university ranking in German-speaking countries. It is based on surveys among more than 120,000 students which the Centre for Higher Education regularly carries out at more than 300 universities in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. More than 8,000 master’s students across Germany took part in the survey for the latest ranking of master’s programs, which, in addition to Psychology, also included Engineering.

You can find the results of the ranking online at https://studiengaenge.zeit.de/ranking/master and in the next print editions of the ZEIT Campus magazine (in German only).
