Times Higher Education Ranking by Subject 2026: University of Mannheim Ranked 33rd Worldwide in Business and Economics
Worldwide number 59 in Social Sciences, number 73 in Psychology

In the Times Higher Education (THE) Ranking by Subject 2026 published yesterday, the University of Mannheim has gained significant ground in the Business and Economics ranking. At an international level, it has moved up ten places, now ranking 33rd worldwide. In Germany, the University of Mannheim has been ranked second, i.e. one place higher than last year as well.
“Our improvement in the Business and Economics ranking by as many as ten places is an excellent achievement,” says President Professor Dr. Thomas Fetzer. “Rankings are an important factor for universities when it comes to international visibility and a key point of reference for international prospective students. Therefore, we are particularly pleased about this year’s leap forward.”
In the Psychology ranking, the University of Mannheim has slightly improved as well, reaching number 73 worldwide. As for Social Sciences, the University of Mannheim is 59th worldwide and 3rd in Germany in the latest ranking, thus remaining one of the top universities in Germany.
The THE World University Ranking assesses research-intensive universities in their core activities: teaching, research and research influence, knowledge transfer, and internationalization. The latest ranking looked at 2,000 higher education institutions worldwide, including 58 German institutions. The ranking is based on the results of reputation surveys as well as the analysis of bibliometric databases and statistical key figures provided by the higher education institutions. It has long been considered one of the most renowned rankings in the global higher education sector.
