Track of study: Applied Computer Science or Cyber Security
Become an expert in anything from programming to IT infrastructures. Students of a cooperative study program in Applied Computer Science will learn to select, integrate, develop, and enhance computer systems, networks, and their applications as well as to train users in applying them. Their input is needed especially when it comes to solving complex information and communication issues, which is why skills such as intercultural communication and project management are also required.
Or you can specialize in the area of secure IT systems: Students of the cooperative and interdisciplinary study program in Cyber Security acquire specialist knowledge in the field of IT security through specific case studies, methods, and procedures. Exciting modules such as app engineering or network security cover security-relevant design, encryption and decryption techniques and fundamental system and infrastructure protection. In addition to the technical content, students acquire basic skills in IT law and expand their communicative, ethical, and social skills.
At the University IT, you can expect to face many exciting challenges in IT and IT management at a future-oriented university. During the internship semesters and workplace training, you will be involved in current projects according to your selected subject-specific focus from the very beginning.

Start of the program: On 1 October of each year
Compensation: 1,400 euros gross per month plus a bonus payment amounting to 95 % of 1,400 euros gross for a 12-month period of study.
Program structure:
- Alternating between three months of workplace training and three months of theoretical training.
- Workplace training at the University IT (UNIT): During your workplace training at the University of Mannheim, you will be involved, among other things, in the development of interface applications and the design of interfaces between systems for their integration into the system landscape. You will also perform tasks in the area of application support for the SAP system as well as assist in system support. Alternatively, you can focus on cyber security, a field which offers exciting tasks in system security, web security, and data protection.

Required skills and qualifications
- You meet the admission requirements for studying at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) and hold a general university entrance qualification or a so-called “fachgebundene Hochschulreife”, i.e., a university entrance qualification allowing you to study a program relating to a specific subject (for details on the admission requirements, please visit the DHBW website).
- You achieved good to very good grades in mathematics and have a strong understanding of mathematics.
- You are enthusiastic about technology and information technologies, a team player, communicative, and curious.
- You enjoy working in an innovative and heterogeneous environment.
